Kiran, Padmini make it 1-2 for Orissa

17-year-old Kiran Manisha Mohanty clinched her maiden National ‘B’ Women Chess title which concluded at Kotla Vijayabhaskara Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad today. Kiran topped the table with 10 points, pushing her teammate Padmini Rout to second spot, who finished the tournament with 9.5 points. ‘‘It’s a great feeling. I never expected to win this title but I was confident of a good show,’’ said Kiran, adding ‘‘This win will lift my performance.’’

A fan of Viswanathan Anand and Bobby Fischer, Kiran likes the way Anand plays his game. ‘‘I follow his positional game keenly. He is an attacking player,’’ said Kiran.

Kiran feels great that she and her statemate Padmini Rout finished one-two in this National ‘B’ championship. ‘‘It is one of the happiest moment as we have done our State proud. We enjoy playing against each other. It’s always a lively competition. It is mostly drawn games,’’ said Kiran.
